MIT Bitcoin Expo 2018

It’s time to treat yourself to some tickets to this year’s MIT Bitcoin Expo.

The Fifth Annual Expo

The Expo will be held on March 17th and 18th (Saturday and Sunday) in MIT’s largest lecture hall that we MIT students affectionately refer to as 26–100. To accommodate more attendees, we will also be hosting more talks at 32–123, in our fabulous Stata Center.

We won’t just be talking about Bitcoin. Bitcoin started it all, but we think our theme should take on a more all-encompassing overview of the space. We could have gone with “blockchain” as the theme, but some new cryptocurrencies aren’t even on blockchains anymore. So, we decided that our theme will be how we are in the early days of revolutionary, digital, peer-to-peer, cryptographically secure transfers of value across global networks. Let’s simplify that and say that our theme this year is !=$ (read: “not equal fiat”).

The Expo will contain all of your favorite things, like:

  • Opportunities to meet like-minded misfits, developers, entrepreneurs, and innovators
  • A wide range of industry panels and talks from top leaders in the !=$ (bitcoin/blockchain/cryptocurrency) space
  • Food

We will also do our best to make sure it does not contain your least favorite things, like:

  • Price talk
  • ICO promoting
  • Everyone obsessively checking CoinMarketCap (ok, this will probably happen no matter what)

Meet the Speakers

Pleased we are to announce our first batch of speakers. They are coming from far and wide to make you more knowledgeable about !=$. Please give a warm virtual Internet welcome to:

This year there are multiple ways to get involved, as we are adding two new components to the Expo: the Hackathon and the Competition.

MIT Bitcoin Hackathon

There will be a 24-hour MIT Bitcoin Hackathon, focused on messing around with this weird but kind of revolutionary thing called blockchain. Applications are open to all university students and professionals. The event will also feature talks and workshops from MIT faculty and researchers, as well as local founders and engineers within the cryptocurrency space.

The Hackathon will take place on Friday, March 16th in the Ray and Maria Stata Center (MIT Building 32). Finalist presentations will occur on Saturday morning at the Expo. Select sponsors will also be offering additional prizes to winning teams.
