KickCity - The Social Network for Event Generation and Promotion

When we have some free time and are looking for entertainment, we can go to the sites like Tickets.ru or Timepad.ru that have a comprehensive list of various events. There we also can directly order the tickets. Or we can look for the events on social networks like Facebook or Meetup.com. In the latter case, there is also an important social component: We see, who of our friends are also going to attend the same event. Also, we can communicate with them, leave comments and questions. This social component, in some cases, can be crucial in our process of deciding where we will eventually go.

Gideon Nveze - a talented entrepreneur, who, after graduating high school with a gold medal in Nigeria, received multiple scholarships in US, England, Japan, China, and Russia. He decided to move to Russia to continue his studies. After spending several years in St Petersburg, he came up with a concept of the KickCity project. This idea came to him, while he worked in the hotel, where visitors often asked him about the places and events they could visit in St Petersburg. Gideon surfed the Internet in order to find something interesting, and he noticed that all the existing event-related sites, didn't take into consideration three important factors:

First, people are usually looking for places located in their close vicinity.

Second, people more often than not make their decision to go out spontaneously.

And, the most important, people are social animals. It's essential for them when they choose to visit some event that their friends are going there too.

Keeping those factors in mind, Gideon devised a social platform, primarily aimed at organizing and sharing events. The platform has three major cornerstones: Social element, in which it's similar to Facebook Events and Meetup.com. The commercial element, similar to that of the event aggregators, like Timepad. Plus, it introduces the token micro-economy, rewarding and encouraging all the platform participants for sharing and promoting the events.

In fact, KickCity is in some way a unique platform, combining the elements of the social network and commercial site. For example, I can create an event on Facebook, but if my event is commercial, like a concert, I cannot sell tickets directly on the platform. On the other hand, the platforms specializing in selling tickets, like Tickets.ru don't include the social component, which would allow me to stay in touch with my friends while planning my activities.

From the start, the platform attracted the attention of various investors, including Y Combinator Startup School. Not long ago KickCity won a grant from the Finnish government and is currently supported by two Finnish accelerators, helping the project to establish its office in Helsinki.

What's even more important, the KickCity platform is already gaining popularity in St Petersburg as a social networking ecosystem, revolving around events and entertainment. The project has working Android and iOS apps, and currently generates its own revenues. The platform hosts commercials events, like concerts, club parties, or theatre plays. At the same time, any platform user can organize their own events. All the events are split into different categories in order to attract a specific audience. Events can be public, so anyone can attend them, or private, accessible only to the close circle of friends of event organizers.

The platform architecture is based on the blockchain. Also, the platform uses its KCY Tokens for conducting monetary operations. As I've mentioned before, it's possible to buy tickets directly on the platform. The system supports both using fiat money and cryptocurrencies, as well as KCY tokens for buying tickets. In fact, using crypto or tokens for purchases, buyers are going to get a better deal.

The system of sharing and promoting events is organized in the next way: The event organizer buys a pool of tokens and uses them to reward users, promoting their event. The promoters receive tokens each time when their friends follow the referral link to the event. To prevent spam the system uses a principle similar to the usage of "gas" on Ethereum. Each promotion costs the promoter some amount of tokens, and he gets rewarded only when his activities attract actual visitors. The visitors who attend the events after following the referral links also get the cash back, which stimulates them to continue using the platform for buying tickets in the future.

After having major success at St Petersburg, KickCity project is planning to spread its activities to other big cities around the world, including Moscow, NYC (US), Houston (US), and Paris (France)
