NO, ELON MUSK HAS NOT PROBABLY INVENTED BITCOINsteemCreated with Sketch.

While a former Space X employee has developed a theory that Elon Musk created Bitcoin - and for that reason exposes interesting arguments - the engineer and businessman denies any participation in the development of digital currency.

While Bitcoin has just exceeded the $ 10,000 mark, and will celebrate its tenth anniversary next year, speculation is rife on the identity of the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, who published in 2008 the White Paper introducing digital currency. .

Sahil GuptaAn article published last week by Sahil Gupta, a former intern from SpaceX, has relaunched rumors that Elon Musk, co-founder of Paypal and CEO of Tesla, could be the inventor of Bitcoin.

Many clues

For Gupta, there are several indications that Satoshi Nakamoto and Elon Musk are one and the same person.

  1. Technical skills: Bitcoin was designed by "a world-class programmer, who knows the C ++ programming language very well" as Dan Kaminsky, a computer security researcher, said in this article. This is the programming language that would be used primarily within SpaceX. Moreover, Elon Musk's Hyperloop paper shows that the man has very good knowledge in cryptography, but also in economics.

  2. A will to solve world problems: Bitcoin was imagined in 2008, the year when a global crisis hit the financial institutions, causing the emergence of a certain mistrust vis-à-vis the banks. Perhaps it was time for the entrepreneur to create a decentralized currency, relying on no control body, to give the citizens of the world control over their finances.

  3. A bit of silence about Bitcoin: Mr Musk mentioned Bitcoin only very rarely. He also stated that he did not own any Bitcoin. Finally, it is possible to rely on this tweet - which, however, looks more like a stroke of humor than true confessions:

@elonmusk Elon, what is your opinion about cryptocurrencies?

@ X4NWO Well, now that you've just discovered who Satoshi Nakamoto was, I think the question does not arise anymore ... 🙂

Some however seem to see a confession on the part of the founder of Paypal. Elon Musk would have thus erased the private keys allowing him to access his Bitcoins - a theory which is moreover taken again in this study that we had presented to you yesterday, according to which nearly 4 million Bitcoins would have been lost forever.

  1. Like Satoshi Nakamoto, Elon Musk does not need money: Satoshi Nakamato would have, according to this estimate, about 1 million Bitcoins. That's the equivalent of $ 10 billion - just over half of Elon Musk's fortune, which now stands at $ 19.7 billion.

And a last argument ...

A week before the publication of Sahil Gupta's article, another article was published about Elon Musk. He presented a theory that the billionaire invented Bitcoin so that it could be used on Mars.

While this idea may seem far-fetched, it is especially the evocation of the creation of Paypal, relayed in the article, which seems interesting. Elon Musk has invented a new method for transferring value, whereby individuals can send money without having to rely on a bank. The company, which he co-founded in 1998, was resold 4 years later on eBay.

For the author of this article, Mr. Musk signed a non-competition agreement after this transfer, which would prevent him from revealing his involvement in the creation of Bitcoin.

But several elements weaken the credibility of this theory

For the cryptocoinnews site, there are several arguments against this theory.

  1. 2008 was a dark year for Elon Musk: he said it was "his worst year", because of the challenges he faced with SpaceX and Tesla, his personal finances, but also his divorce. We can therefore think that man probably had neither the time nor the desire to work on a project as ambitious as Bitcoin.

  2. Elon Musk likes to talk about him: when the possibility that Elon Musk could be Satoshi Nakamoto was mentioned in 2016 on Reddit, most users explained that the entrepreneur was not able to keep such a secret, and that he would have already expressed himself to fight the institutions wishing to ban cryptocurrency.

  3. Elon Musk does not seem to be very enthusiastic about Bitcoin: when asked in this interview what he thought about it, he explained that it was "probably 'a good thing,' but claimed that digital currencies were mainly used to conduct illegal transactions.

A theory quickly denied

Less than 48 hours after the publication of these rumors, the interested party wanted to make a denial on Twitter:

"No that's not true. A friend sent me a fraction of Bitcoin a few years ago, but I do not even know where she is. "

As one might expect, this denial has elicited many comments:

"Sure, and on the seventh day Mr. Musk rested." - Phil Thompson

"I will deny this information immediately. It is impossible for Elon Musk to be Satoshi. He would never have designed a monetary system that uses so much energy. A Bitcoin transaction uses as much energy as a whole house needs to run for a week. It is impossible that he could thus have harmed the environment. "- Adam W.

If Elon Musk has shown that he is capable of a lot of things, we can think that he is probably not the origin of Bitcoin.

With such a response, the mystery around Satoshi Nakamoto's identity is still present, and could never find an answer ... Unless we refer to the opinion of a reader of CryptoCoinsNews, who would have arrived to discover who was behind this genius inventor:
