OOps! I resteemed and tweeted thinking it was tonight! Hope you had fun.

Thanks anyway. Learned some very valuable information there. Several of the guys there had visited the Bitmain farm in Mongolia recently and did a slide show about it. My perspective changed about several things of which I'll do a write up about. Sure to piss a lot of people off.

Nice, looking forward to your write up. I'm really starting to question August 1st, these are interesting times for bitcoin indeed.

Wish I was in Tokyo looks like a fun place for geeks

It's a fun place for everyone, but geeks have their own district here, Akihabara!

God damit why am I not in Tokyo tonight lol. Have fun at the meetup guys <3

Indeed, why aren't you here? Didn't know NHK was going to be there. Hopefully we'll get some good press. Gonna try and pay my tab with $BTC.

So I guess, you live in Japan. How do the people perceive Cryptos? Here in the west there is a lot of mentioning that Cryptocurrencies are big over there. How would you see it from first hand? Many People involved? What kind of People involved? Why are they involved ( for idealism, trend or economic reasons etc.) ? How is "NEM" doing in Japan?

Ok, so there is an expat community that is very involved in crypto, see bitcoin.com.

As far as crypto being big, not quite yet. Lots of interest, but mostly it's just about bitcoin & ethereuem, not much deeper than that. Having said that I haven't talked to many Japanese crypto enthusiasts yet. There were a few at the meeting last night, but most Japanese I talk to are still just getting into it. As for their reasons, most want to make money. Some are idealists and believe the tech will make the world a better place. All of them are salary men. This is from around the 10 Japanese people I've spoken to at 2 meetings.

The hype is around Air Regi by Recruit corp. The Air Regi app along with Coin-check is allowing people to transact with bitcoin at retail locations throughout Japan. The Recruit people are very smart. They've grown their company into huge business and had the foresight to see the potential of bitcoin & foreign tourists using it throughout Japan. Now that people can actually use it, just rolled out the other day, I think it's going to get very big, very fast. Keep in mind though that older Japanese are still very cash reliant and don't use plastic much. It's the younger generation that will drive adoption.

NEM of course is the darling of Japan. Of those 10 about half know of NEM and own some coins. I admit that while I own NEM I haven't been following much of what they are doing. It's difficult to keep up with everything in crypto. I am going to start digging into them more though. I'll report back anything I learn from them or the community.

Very interesting Info. I am invested too.
A quick some up of NEM:
1.NEW Social-Media Marketing approach:

  1. Massive Website Update coming within next weeks
  2. Release of Platform-Update "Catapult" til end of summer
  3. Worldwide Marketing Expansion upcoming: https://coinjournal.net/nem-io-foundation-unveils-us40-million-global-expansion-plan/ Blockchains centers will be open in Sillicon Valley, Kuala Lumpur & Europe
  4. Upcoming Trezor Integration very soon.
  5. Many Projects on side in development (e.g. mobile NEM Pay, NEMauthentificator, NEMid etc.
  6. Fees for transactions and NameSpaces will be reduced by Factor 20 in a couple of weeks!
  7. NEM foundation also have plans to build their own exchange for the Tokens on top of NEM (e.g. DIMCoin, ECObit, LuxTag) including a US-Dollar pegged cryptocurrency

In general:

NEM's core value-proposition is the interoperability between its public Blockchain "NEM" and their private Blockchain-Solutions "Mijin".
In a private Blockchain the nodes trust each other. Thus the speed is way faster. Furthermore the own Blockchain is private, which adopts to the needs of keeping sensitive information secret. Compare it to the intranet in a corporation.

Example: Bank A handles its assets within their own private "Mijin"-Blockchain (Intranet). When it sends the asset to another bank, that means to their private "Mijin"-Blockchain it goes through the public Blockchain "NEM" (Internet), so everybody can see and verify that this asset has been moved. This gives global verification and trust.

I agree with the NEM-Team, that big corporations will not move their business into a public Blockchain. Finance is a very private and sensitive Business. What happens in the private "Mijin"-Blockchain of Bank A is not my business and I don't care.
The public Blockchain "NEM" connects the private "Mijin"-Blockchains for immutability and trust.

Just got back home. Excellent meeting. Will get back to you your questions. Need sleep now.
