Ten years ago, Gemini block
I don't remember exactly what year it was anymore when I first heard the name bitcoin, but what I do remember is that the president of Ecuador was fascinated by the idea.
I think because I had negative feelings towards the left leaning president, I immediately dismissed the whole thing, thinking that it must be part of his "evil plan" so to speak.
Fast forward a few years later, the name keeps on coming up and I'm sitting there wondering if I missed the boat, then priced over 1k at the time and still, without much knowledge of the philosophy of crypto, I stood skeptical of it.
So this morning, when I read that today marks the tenth year of the first block, it really puts things into perspective for me, because it both shows that the tech is not going anywhere, and that we are still so early in the game.
To compare it to something more palpable, its as if it's 1994 and we are discussing if the internet will one day take over all communication. Imagine having the foresight, just imagine.

I heard about bitcoin when it cost $ 200, I think it was in 2012. I remember that at the time I did not pay much attention because my internship salary was that, and I thought a salary at that time was not worth a totally unknown digital coin. I wonder what I could have done if I had bought at least six in that amount.

I remember when Bitcoin hit $1 parity. Everyone thought that was pretty amazing. I remember thinking, "Wow, I should really buy some," but the complexity of it turned me away.
Today, the vast majority of the world still feels the same way. The complexity of it turns people off. It's only a matter of time before this boulder finally gets pushed to the top of the hill. #tippingpoint 2019
Agreed! Something ten years old that continues to develop and has opened a new asset class and industry is a force to be reckon with. The road forward will be interesting as it can continued be leveraged by centralized organizations but bitcoin itsef continues to be the foundation.

I remember people talking about it on /b/ back in 2009/2010. Thought it was ridiculous, that people would be making money off of this stuff. I sure could have used it...
