DEVELOP PROTOTYPE FOR INSTANT MESSAGING BY LIGHTNING NETWORK

Developers of the bitcoin portfolio LightningPeach, from the Bitfury group, created a messaging utility within their application, which would allow them to use the Lightning network for the exchange of decentralized messages. The prototype works through the addresses of the lightning portfolio of the users.

The Head of Partnerships and Lightning Network of Bitfury, Yuriy Blokhin, said in his twitter account that Lightning Network could be useful as a messaging network resistant to censorship. Blokhin accompanied his publication with a video showing how the message exchange system works.

In this test, the messages are seated outside the chain of Bitcoin blocks, so they are received instantaneously. Although the sending of messages involves a small cost, which was introduced to avoid unwanted messages or spam, once the message is answered, that cost is reverted to the user, unless the chat is associated with a service.

Compared to encrypted message services such as Bitmessage, Blokhin pointed out that the LightningPech prototype does not involve separate client software, as the bitcoin portfolio is directly incorporated.

This works with only the Lightning network. Your wallet becomes your social chat / graphic client. Your social graphic chat + client, becomes your wallet.

The developments in the Lightning network, since it began operations in January of this year, have led to several use cases, mostly related to its main purpose, which are micro-payments with bitcoins. However, diverse applications have been available.

Recently it was known about the creation of a web page called ThunderMessage. The site allows users to send messages, so that the community can vote for their favorites. Voting is done through micro-payments through the Lightning Network.

Also, last week announced the development of an add-in for Microsoft Excel, which will allow receiving and sending payments through Lightning Network channels in the application of spreadsheets. Other innovations involve the Lightning network, including videogames, betting applications and digital art.

Lightning Network is a decentralized network for instant micropayments, which are performed in a second layer, outside the main Bitcoin chain. It was conceived as a solution to the problems of scalability, since it frees the main network from a significant volume of transactions, implies lower fees per operation and allows instantaneous payments.
