What's the point of adding Core to the Bitcoin name?

in #bitcoin6 years ago

If you didn't hide under a rock for the last weeks you are aware of the hole crazy debate around the naming of the Bitcoin Cash. Apparently, for reasons I am not gonna debate here, the Bitcoin Cash community led by Roger Ver really hate the name Bcash.

To be honest, if I wouldn't be aware of the debate I would even consider Bcash quite an easy to remember name, almost quite and with a positive impact. But let's face it - the stake here is the Bitcoin brand and Bitcoin Cash wants that badly. Bcash simply strips the coin of this valuable and precious legacy - yes, even if it is a fork, I assume we can say there is a legacy.

But from the same crazy debate something else emerged. The name Core is used to point the development team of Bitcoin. Somehow, some people started to use and even promote the name Bitcoin Core in order to probably differentiate from Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin Diamond and so on.

Now, unless this strategy is on purpose, trying to shatter the Bitcoin brand by calling it Bitcoin Core, honestly I don't get it. At all. I've seen even some Bitcoin enthusiasts calling the name Bitcoin Core.

Why would you do that? Again, Core is the name pointing towards to dev team. That's fine. But the name is just Bitcoin. That is its original name. Why would you add the word Core and eventually cause some sort of confusion between new people joining the space, so they might think all these coins starting with Bitcoin are kind of the same, forks or whatever.

To me this seems like a marketing strategy pushed to reduce credibility and create confusion. Bitcoin Core does not exist. It is just Bitcoin.

Your writing is very interesting.
But I want to ask you, what do you think about the development of 2018 bitcoin price in the future?
I just want to survey some people

Thank you.
My view is that BTC will continue to be volatile, maybe less and less as more liquidity is added to the market every day. The price will probably rise to higher than I imagine. It would probably easily go anywhere from 50k to 100k USD mark. It is already established as a store of value and the network effect is huge. It is also the first application of the blockchain which in itself represents historic value. But I would definitely recommend you do your own research and decide for yourself, not what other think.
