The G20 summit will be the stage to hold two discussions on cryptocurrencies next week in an effort to look for what the representatives call a "common response" on regulation.

A representative of the media for the summit said that the first conference will take place on Monday. The talks will be attended by the Minister of Finance of Argentina, Nicolás Dujovne, and the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), José Ángel Gurría, among other interested parties. While the second will be held on Tuesday.

The agenda and the discussion points for both events have not been published. However, a public document indicates that the discussions will revolve around the implications of cryptocurrencies and the possible applications of their underlying technology.

The document notes that blockchain technology "has the potential to promote financial inclusion." However, he continues explaining that "it is important to analyze its implications for financial stability, tax evasion and illegal financial activities."

Financial officials from the United States, Germany, France and Japan have asked that the discussions take place in the months leading up to the G20 summit. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin even commented that his concerns revolve around the use of cryptocurrencies in illegal activities such as money laundering, while French and German financial authorities wrote a letter in February that sounded the alarm about the potential risks for investors.
