Financial crisis are based on the rational expectancy of the investors and productive sectors (along with banking sector). If the players feel that something might be wrong, they simply move the money around to the safest option available. This, sometimes, helps those crisis to grow even bigger and faster. Then as a domino effect the population also stop to consume and the cycle goes on and on... with restrictive monetary policy and such.
