Ratel's photos #272 Forest Birds-213
The European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) female
This little bird is able to catch insects right on the fly. However, her diet is not only flying insects, but also different caterpillars. And she has no special preferences, if in the place where she lives caterpillars more than flying insects, she will catch caterpillars. In early spring, when not all insects have appeared in the forests or when cold weather and insects are hiding, these birds can even eat stinking begbugs that other birds do not eat!
Female differ from males in its coloring. Males have black plumage, and females are dark brown. As you can see in the photo, this is a brown female.
Interestingly, the male sings songs not only to attract females and designate the territory, but also the song serves as an invitation to nest other flycatchers.
