Southwest Airlines Apologizes To UC Berkeley Coach Who Was Asked To Prove Biracial Son's Identity

in #biracial6 years ago

Lindsay Gottlieb, basketball coach at Berkeley Tweeted about her bad experience with Southwest Airlines employee asking her for prove her child was really hers.

Lindsay Gottlieb and her handsome son.

According to Gottlieb, she has traveled with her son approximately 50 times and has never been asked for such credentials. She was appalled at the fact that she was asked to prove her son was hers and felt a sense of discrimination and unfairness.

There has been many responses to her tweet and albeit some have sympathized with her, many have responded in defense of the employee who asked her for said credentials.

Southwest Airlines has since apologized and stated that they will use this experience as a training guide.

“We have reached out to Ms. Gottlieb directly to address her concerns and will utilize the situation as a coaching opportunity for our employee,” the statement reads. “We apologize if our interaction made this family uncomfortable — that is never our intention. Our employees are well-regarded for their hospitality, and we always strive for the best experience for anyone who entrusts us with their family’s travel.”

Hi @joseph. I just voted on your post 16%.

From my own take, the employees were doing their job. I know it felt bad asking a mother to prove that her child is really hers but with the recent vice of child trafficing around the globe every person is a suspect. She should accept the appology and move on.
