Downvote Viewer – See flag wars happen live

in beyondbitcoin •  last year

Hey there,

@officialfuzzy asked me to code a page where we can see recent downvotes to give some transparency on the recent flag wars, so I created Downvote Viewer.

It looks just like this flag cake!

Flag Cake

The tool will watch the blockchain and display all flags that happen. It will sort and group them so you can see who f.e. votes with @cheetah for the steemcleaners.

It will also save all data so you can later review it again. But it will only collect new data while you have it open (background tab is fine).

I hope this will help bring more transparency to steem. If you are missing something the tool should do, please tell me in the comments or on discord.

This tool is supported by the Whaleshares community and the beyondbitcoin hangouts in our plan to improve the steem community, visit our discord here: https://discord.gg/AZ2txaN

I am running for witness, so if you like what I do for steem, vote for @reggaemuffin as witness: https://steemit.com/witness-category/@reggaemuffin/witness-reggaemuffin

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

where is that, all the flags got pulled :D

Apparently, they've never heard of Betsy Ross.

I like the picture you chose. These are the famous Dutch, Frysian Oranjekoeken. Taste really great.

·

I thought we have to sweeten it up a bit 😇 they look really delicious

I want to say thank you @reggaemuffin and ill also say if u want to we can use whaleshares to pay some people to "prettify" it with pro graphics and stuff :)

·

That would definitely be really cool!

@reggaemuffin I just checked out downvote viewer. Nothing is there !!. How's that supposed to work? Is it work in progress? I mean can you shed some more light on that please? thank you.

·

Keep the tab open a bit. At first there are no downvotes but once someone does one you see it:

I guess I have to have some Text on it to tell new users that they have to wait a bit ^^

@reggaemuffin pardon my ignorance, I am new around here. Why does a person down vote a blog and second how it it done? there is a flag in the corner. How does that help? I know these queries are already answered multiple times elsewhere in steemit. But just that I was here, I thought of seeking answers from you. Thanks for your time.

The flag is exactly the downvote button. It works reverse to an upvote and once a post or comment has more downvotes than upvotes, it gets hidden. So this tool shows downvotes and people can look into it to decide if they want to f.e. upvote it to stop good controversial content from being hidden.

Never stop asking questions :)

@reggaemuffin, that's very kind of you. I just checked that my upvote has a teeny weeny power of $0.02. that's pretty cool.

Now, How many times can i upvote a blog or comment?
it is in percentage. How are these allotted and what is the duration?
when will this power deplete and how can I know about it?
when will my power be again to full once it is diluted or depleted?

How many times can i upvote a blog or comment?

You can vote for each blog/comment (they are technically the same) only once, up or down. Voting a second time means overriding your first vote. You can scale your vote from -100% to +100% (and remove a vote by voting 0%)

when will this power deplete and how can I know about it?

Voting ±100% will cost you 2% voting power. You start with 100% voting power and each day you get 20% back if you used it. So you have 10 full votes per day. If your power gets to f.e. 50% your vote will be worth 50%. And you will only loose 2% of 50%, so 1% voting power.

@reggaemuffin thanks, I understand it very clearly. All these days I was holding back my upvotes not knowing what to do about it. Now I know. I can upvote some new blogs who need some encouragement. though it is only $0.002 and it is symbolic. But still they will be happy that someone read their blog and is happy with it. It helps a lot to boost one's morale I guess. so I will vote every worthy blog that I come across.
Feeling good already :) thanks.

I can recommend https://www.steemnow.com/ they show you your voting power and how much one vote is currently worth. Cool to track your progress :)

@reggaemuffin ...new users seems to find it hard to understand the upvoting principle.. (happens frequently)

·

That is just a shame! I guess you can make life long friends by educating them ;) Glad the tool can be used for such!

I guess I really have to make a bot that notices such behavior and warns users.

Maybe you like to use this Steembot gif that i made in your bot-warnings... it sorts of point out the problem :)

A useful tool for us to check whats up with the downvotes. Thank you for your coding talents put to great use for the community.

Awesome @reggaemuffin! All we need is popcorn and we can sit back and watch the flag wars! place bets even! haha!
upvoted and resteemed

I'm hungry now, and if I look at my Steemit account, I can't afford a cake ... :D

I'm interested to see how this tool works

Fantastic. I have seen an increase of the use of down voting. But for good reasons. As more people join steemit - it is vital that we promote good useful and unique material.

This is very cool. I checked it out to see how it works and think this will be very useful. Good work

Thanks for the information. Resteemed. All my best to you and to fellow Steemians!

Thanks for the great informative post!

it is useful tool ,
thank you @reggaemuffin

super informative post thanks to make us aware,by the way cake is so yummy wanna take a bite......haha lol

That's cool! Ive seen a lot of post about this Flag war and this is actually a moment of clarity

reggaemuffin, That makes sense.

That looks like a valuable contribution to the community. This whole flagging business was kind of shady so far, so getting in a bit of light is sure a good thing.
I will vote for you as a witness, upvote and follow as well.

Thank you!

Gern geschehen! Ich sah gerade, das Du Deutscher bist... :)

Was ein dusseliges Wort... :)

·
·
·
·
·

Ich habe ehrlich gesagt keine Ahnung ^^ Vieles was manche Nutzer so tun ist mir nicht gerade sehr klar…

·
·
·
·
·
·

Haha! Das geht mir genau so. Danke Dir!

It's great to have transparency on what's being flagged. Thanks for the share :)

Cool. It would also be able to good to be able to check historical downvotes by tag or username.

there's nothing that I am seeing.

·

Give it a second for flags to happen

I'm so confused. how do you downvote on Steemit? i dont see the button

·

It's the little transparent/white flag on the right. (Very top right of posts)

Umm I like😋 @maite
