Thunder From Down Under!!

I'm very proud to be a part of BEOS history! It's called BEOS at SEA!

We are on a 30-day cruise from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, BC, Canada. While in Sydney, my husband and I went on the amazing "Aussie Quest" for a BEOS approved laptop.

After several train rides and walking 7.3 km (according to my iPhone) we sat down on a public bench and BOOM, right in front of us was not only a computer store (not on the internet), but it was solely a MSI computer store loaded with computer geeks! After a quick call to the esteemed Dan Notestein to ensure the computer geeks were doing what was needed, we then set off to find a GPS receiver for the laptop. Surprisingly, this as well was no easy task. I am from Canada and am used to slow mail, but Australia is far behind even Canada for online ordering with slow delivery. I could order a GPS receiver easy enough online, but the guaranteed time of delivery was always a month away with NO opportunity for a speedier option. We did eventually find a GPS and then all was left online in the very capable hands of Dan Notestein.

What distance will we cover on the 1st portion of our cruise?

A perfect cruise for many days of "International Water"..."Jurisdiction, NONE"

I hope you enjoyed my post, and I look forward to sharing BEOS at SEA daily with you!!

Hello dear friend @steem-samiam !!! I hope to enjoy your cruise and to have great time !!! I suggest you to visit out beautiful Greek islands in summer with your yacht !!!!

Lol, I’d love to!!

A great adventure indeed. Thanks for helping test, implement and pioneer the BEOS project!

I think I'm ready for America's Amazing Race now, lol

What is a BEOS approved laptop and why do you have to go all the way to Australia to a physical store to get one?

I started my holiday in Australia, which is where I was prior to the start of our cruise (Australia to Vancouver, Canada). A BEOS approved laptop just means that it needed Linux and some other techie stuff on it, which is out of my league of language :)

I thought it might have been some security thing to make sure the NSA etc hadn’t backdoored the laptop!

That looks fun, although trying to find a laptop might not have been so much fun. Oof! Was it more expensive there, too? They were more expensive in Spain than the US. Now I feel extra spoiled with my 2-day online deliveries! lol.

It was totally fun going on the quest :) Yes, it was more expensive than the US, but with the dollar conversion, I would think it would be similar. When we hit Hawaii, I'll be looking for a North American cord for the laptop as the Australia one definitely won't plug in :)
Lol, I really miss having our house in Florida and how fast the US delivery system is! I'm told that Australia has just gotten onto Amazon.

What a wonderful cruise!!! I hope you had a beautiful time there.... :)))

I've been doing the rain dance for a while now, seeing this post has reminded me to buy some more BTS to stake as I was on holiday (in none other than Australia) when it was launched, so had no way of accessing the wallet! Still managed to create the account and put a small amount in while I was away.

That's wonderful to hear!

Nice to have you back blogging, hope you have an enjoyable cruise, its quite a long cruise and all the best with BEOS, i definitely follow up on that project

Yes, it has been a while since I was posting :) Thanks for the good wishes...BEOS really has an outstanding team behind it :)

I really want to follow your trip.

I always appreciate you! Thanks for always supporting my posts :)

You've been away for quite some time now, it's nice to have you back!

Thanks! Great to be back and testing out the BEOS at sea!

Wow, what an amazing journey at sea. Sounds like a lot of fun. I look forward to reading more about it. I spent three months in NZ years back, and LOVED the Picton area. Hope you get to mess about while there. Queen Charlotte Sound area is an amazing place to bop around in.
It's so nice to have you back posting once more. Have fun (like THAT'S not going to happen...) and looking forward to more seaward posts. Cheers

Too cool and thanks! Our first stop in NZ was Picton...the city of 5000 people :) It was raining/blowing that day so we ventured into town and that was it.
Normally the ship would go to Christchurch, but their dock is still down since that big earthquake they had.
