Fair enough, I did the same thing early on :) From what I have seen though, even though the rewards are split between Steem Power and Steem Backed Dollars, for the Steem Power, you get the literal amount of the reward (i.e. the $3.75 USD worth of Steem in the example above), whereas you get an equivalent amount of SBD (i.e. $3.75 = 3.75 SBD in the example above).

This isn't explained overly well, unless you really go digging into peoples explanations on it. Even then, I read a number of them that did not explain it accurately.

The main issue is that SBD were originally meant to be pegged to $1 USD worth of Steem, but they are now worth over $4 USD, so it becomes more beneficial to do the 50/50 rather than powering up. If you still want to focus on building up your Steem Power, all you have to do is convert the SBD into Steem and then dump it into your Steem Power.

The platform, for all it's easy-to-use features, can be somewhat counter-intuitive at the same time. The internal currencies are a prime example.

Just keep up the good work and you'll figure things out as you go :)

Cheers!

This is a helpful explanation for us newbs.. thank you! :)
