Yeastie battles - Belgian blondes
Next in the beer pairs are the Belgian blonde ales.
This classic style is showcasing what different flavours yeast strains can impart to a brew. This evening we've got a Zig and a Zag.
The similar designs are suitable for these beer sisters.
The Zig is using the Belgian Abbey yeast while the Zag is using the very successful T-58.
When it comes to looks, these 2 can't be told apart; they're identical.
Lovel, clear golden appearance
Aroma wise, they're pretty similar, with the Zig (Belgian abbey yeast) seeming maybe a bit fruitier. The Zig seems to have more flavours going for it, a bit of banana, cloves and bread with a nice peppery finish.
The Zag(T-58 yeast) has more citrus flavours, a cleaner overall taste and less spiciness.
Both of these were good beers and a seeing what yeast can do to the flavours made the whole experience more interesting.
This evenings winner will be the... drum roll... Zag! Whoop whoop!
Alright... that's enough excitement for one day, so thanks for following!
Cheers
