Beach Wednesday - Fishing at the beach [Arte Xávega]

This might be strange for many of you who haven't visited traditional fishing​ villages.

Arte Xávega is fishing gear tradition which includes hauling nets from the shore

This summer I've witnessed how regular people enjoying the beach were side by side with fishermen​ pushing​ its nets to the beach.

If years ago Arte Xávega was done manually or with animals, nowadays they use mechanic force of tractors

They are used to pull the boats and nets from the sea and to transport the fish in the beach to the local fish market. They are also of great help to put the boat on the sea.

It seems I keep finding this "Viking" boat every time​ I visit the village

The above photo was shot in August, this one was shot in June, and it is also the boat on the Youtube video (below).

A few weeks ago I've shared this post Beach Wednesday - Arte Xávega, a fishing gear with centuries of tradition in Portugal where I shared this video that gives us an insight of how fisherman hauls the nets.

Praia da Vieira is one of those communities where Arte Xávega is still practiced

It is an important economic activity for local fishermans, at least during summer months!

This side of the beach isn't used for fishing, here one can relax!

Can you believe it is still warm enough to go to the beach!? Not exactly as a hot Summer day, but it seems Autumn doesn't want to cool our days in Portugal.
