BeachWednesday: Blue waves & golden sand

Hey, my dear Steemians!

Surrounded by wonderful blue and emerald waves, Sicily has some of the best beaches in Italy. The warm and mild weather make this island a perfect destination all year round. If you are not a big fan of laying down on the beach, Sicily offers magnificent tourist attractions, among which trekking on Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. During winter months, you can enjoy skiing on Etna, a cable car being available at Refugio Sapienza. The water is still warm during winter, hence you might even get the chance to swim. Combining winter sports and summer activities is probably a perfect match for most of the travel addicts.

Besides these attractions, you will love the picturesque and colourful villages all across the island. Their charm and romantic appearance will earn a place in your heart and will bring unforgetable memories.

The wonderful cuisine and wines will add an even more plus to the overall experience. Don't forget to try cannoli, granita(similar to a sorbet), martipan cakes, minuzza, arrancini, dry tomatoes and any dish with pistacchio. They also have liquor wines, may favourite being vino alla mandorla, having an almond base. Be careful if you are allergic as some of their traditional dishes include almonds and pistacchio, pistacchio being one of the most cultivated plants on the island.

The island has two airports - in Palermo(the capital of the island) and in Catania(Eastern coast). Make your homework and prepare carefully your trip before getting there. You won't have enough time to cover all the island as it is pretty large and crossing it from one part to another takes a lot of time.
