Taqwa Langsa Mosque, A Minimalist Mosque That Prioritizes Comfort in Worship
Friday is a very important day for Muslims, especially for men, because they are required to perform Friday prayers in congregation at the mosque. On this occasion, the author had the opportunity to visit the Taqwa Mosque, which is better known by the local community as the Matang Seulimeng Mosque, in Langsa City.
🗓️ Visit time : Friday, April 4, 2025
A brief History
Taqwa Mosque was founded in 1960 by Peutua Hanafiah Don in Gp. Matang Seulimeng. Construction of the mosque began in 1980 after a committee was formed and had waqf land for development. The mosque was initially the center of worship for three local villagers: the people of Matang Seulimeng village, Meutia village, and Lhok Banie village. Source

Architecture and facilities
- Architecture
One of the main attractions of the Taqwa Mosque is its unique architecture. The mosque has two large domes: a silver-colored dome that is part of the old building and a new green dome that stands majestically. The combination of these two architectural styles gives the mosque its distinctive character.

- Mini library, office and ATM
On the left side of the mosque, there is a small tower that houses the mosque's library. Although the author could not see the book collection in detail, the existence of this library shows the mosque's attention to science and literacy.
Under the same tower, there is the secretariat office of the Mosque Prosperity Board (BKM) which functions as the center of administration and management of mosque activities. In addition, there is also an ATM machine to facilitate worshipers who need to withdraw cash.
- Parking area
The mosque yard is equipped with a large parking area, especially for two-wheeled vehicles. Given the large number of worshipers who come, especially on Fridays, the availability of an adequate parking area is very important. For four-wheeled vehicles, the parking area is available in front of the mosque fence and on the side of the road.

- Place of Ablution
The place of ablution at the Taqwa Mosque is also a concern. There are two different locations for ablution. The wudu' space in the new building is spacious and colorful, offering comfort with clean ceramic designs. Meanwhile, the wudu' space in the old building looks more cramped despite being tiled.
Atmosphere Inside the Mosque

Entering the inside of the Taqwa Mosque, there is a significant difference between the old and new buildings. The old building gives the impression of being open and airy, with good air circulation thanks to the installed fans. The air blows through the large windows so that it enters the entire room, creating a warmer and more natural atmosphere.
In contrast, the new building offers a cooler atmosphere thanks to air-conditioning. The space inside feels more spacious and modern, with a minimalist interior design in white and glossy tiled floors. The mihrab in the new building is plain, with only a pulpit for the preacher, reflecting the focus on the comfort of worship.
The stark difference between the two buildings provides a choice for worshippers. Those who like a traditional atmosphere may opt for the old building, while those who prioritize comfort and coolness will prefer the new building. Despite the different styles, the two parts of the mosque remain unified in their function as places of worship.
Transparency in Financial Management
The mosque management has also demonstrated transparency in financial management. On Friday, it announced a total cash balance of Rp35,500,000 or approximately 15580 Steem (Calculated based on the Steem price on Sunday, April 13, 2025).
This reflects the enthusiasm and concern of the community for the development and prosperity of the Taqwa Mosque. In addition, the donations received over the past week were also mentioned in detail by the mosque management, both in cash and building materials such as cement and ceramics.
Overall, Taqwa Mosque looks simple both from the outside and from the inside, this mosque prioritizes the comfort of worshipers in carrying out worship. The enthusiasm of the community to donate in building the mosque also deserves thumbs up.
