Yes. A baby should be vegan...other than eating their mother's milk. A baby cannot digest meat or dairy...except for it's mother's milk. I'd be hesitant to suggest anything other than soft fruits and pureed fruits and veggies until they're over a year old. Of course, after 6-8 months they can eat lots of different things in moderation, but you don't want their guts slammed with hard to digest things like meat until they're more prepared to deal with it. They obviously can also eat more and more solid foods as they get older, so you don't really need to puree everything.

There are tons of different opinions on this subject. Some crazy people even think that the first food should be meat or eggs...but I think that's an overreaction to our grain heavy diets, and this fad over a caveman diet. Grains are somewhat hard for babies to digest, despite many suggesting many grains as first foods, like oatmeal or rice porridge. If they really wanna be like cavemen though, they can pre-chew various fruits and berries and veggies that they would scavenge in the woods, because historically, we were much more gatherers than hunters. We also didn't eat anywhere near the limited diet we eat today, which is primarily due to what's easy to cultivate and ship, not what's healthy.
