19 July 1989, the second engine of United DC-10 explodes, causing severe damage to parts of the hydraulic system. The pilots lost control of the aircraft.
By changing only the thrust of the engines, they managed to land at Sioux Gateway Airport. However, shortly afterwards, DC-10 exploded. Of the 296 people on board, 111 were killed.
