A #shark has attacked a woman on the West coast of #Australia. Earlier in the same area, a young 17-year-old surfer was bitten by a great white shark and died.

The injured woman was taken to hospital after the attack that took place in Kelp Beds, on the south coast of Western Australia.

It was announced that the woman was on a flotation device about 200 meters from the shore before she was attacked. #Kelp #Beds #beach was closed to the public after the incident that took place in the east of the Esperance region on Sunday afternoon.

Royal Physician Air Service has confirmed a patient has been transferred from Esperance to Perth.

Wylie Bay, where Kelp Beds beach is located. It is a popular beach among locals and tourists alike.

Two deadly shark attacks in the same area
Kelp Beds, located in Wylie Bay, has been the scene of two deadly shark attacks in recent years.

In October 2020, surfer Andrew Sharpe tore the attacking shark Sharpe's diving suits.

In 2017, 17-year-old Laeticia Brouwer died after being bitten by a great white shark while surfing while her mother and sisters watched her on the same beach in 2017.

The species of shark involved in Sunday's attack is not yet known, but a 3.3-metre-long great white was reported in the area around 12:30 p.m.
