In 1973 the Bank of Commerce tower was erected at the corner of Avenida 18 between 76th and 77th streets as the highest business building in Maracaibo state Zulia in Venezuela, a distinction that was perhaps its own condemnation.
Whether for reasons of pleasure or business, for almost ten years the banking skyscraper and its secret weapon, the Altamira Cinema that was the back of the building, attracted countless marabines to its headquarters, until in 1984 the calculations literally failed. Something in the engineering of the building went wrong, the slippage of some of the bases and other expertise resulted in the building being declared uninhabitable. Today it has 34 years of total abandonment, it is a garbage dump and a homeless shelter.
