The Sun = your self-image, your fundamental sense of who you are
Neptune = imagination, fantasies, illusions, daydreams -- but also phobias and paranoia
Departing squares = often deal with "foundation problems," painful memories, issues from the past, secrets you want to deny or keep buried
What's happening?
The best word to describe this energy is "strange." Yes, that could describe almost any mix where stressed Neptune plays a part, but when it starts messing with you sense of who you are, things go from peculiar to weird pretty quick. So, this energy is strange. Strange to own, strange to meet, strange to observe ... or work with ... or try to describe. One of the hardest parts of handling stressed Neptune is ... you're never sure what's real -- and what's part of someone's (or you own) warped imagination.
Do you really have a problem? Or does someone else just think you do? (And tell you so, usually framed as some kind of complaint or criticism.) Or are you causing yourself trouble by being paranoid? You can't really be sure. You can make a case either way. (It's that kind of strange. See what I mean?)
On the "positive" side -- if you can call it that -- you have issues such as: Can you trust this invitation / opportunity that offers so many tantalizing prospects? Is this too good to be true? Are you fooling yourself? Is someone else leading you on? Is this your own wishful thinking? Is this a con? Is it an illusion? Are you about to make a fool of yourself? Or are you about to be suckered? You can see how going around in the circles of this dance can make you dizzy ... and still deliver no answers.
There's no denying that Neptune appeals to the daydreamer, the idealist in all of us. And in Sun / Neptune squares you're trying to define yourself differently -- perhaps for very legitimate reasons. But your own fears and insecurities get in the way. And just about the time you get those damped down, your imagination concocts a festival of temptations and possibilities that are so seductive ... so delightful ... and you so much want to believe they are possible. And maybe they are. And maybe they aren't.
So, while your imagination is running a number on you, your physical energy is drained by a Sun square to Neptune. You may feel tired (exhausted!!), unmotivated and / or sick to the point that all you want to do is sleep -- or dream -- or do nothing. Fortunately this does get on down the road fairly fast. By this time next month, your relationship with Neptune will be different -- and far more positive. Meanwhile, be kind to yourself. Yes, your imagination can be scary, but it can also deliver some wonderful treasures. By next month it will have remembered how. Give it chance to do that.
What to expect?
- Seriously wishing "things were different" -- and being lost in visions of how they could be
- Dealing with painful memories -- ones that undercut your confidence / ones you'd like to ignore back out of existence
- Handicapping yourself with your own doubts, fears, insecurities
- Trusting -- or giving credence to -- other's opinions ... which may not be at all valid (They may be running their own agenda for some reason.)
- Not seeing yourself -- or reality -- clearly
- Exceptional fatigue / lack of motivation / escapist behaviors
This is also a clash between logic and inspiration. Those two things don't always mix or work well together -- and this is one of those times. You may be trying to be "rational" about things where that's not part of the picture. Being logical / sensible / reasonable may not be what your situation needs now. In fact, it may just offer you the chance to beat up on yourself.
Once the Sun moves into Cancer, life will at least look different. You'll have more access to your intuition, although that ugly Saturn / Pluto conjunction will cause other problems. The Leo transits (in August) will at least be free of interference. And the Scorpio transits (in November) bring even more help. But this doesn't really straighten out and get comfortable until the Capricorn transits (in January.) That time also lines up some real-world changes that may also make a difference.
