Panda Oil Pastels - Try out
This isn’t the best composition, and I didn’t manage to achieve what I set out to do. I approached this in the same way as when painting with watercolours or oil paints.
I started by painting the background, then the vase, the foliage and finally the flowers.
As you can see, the section with the flowers contains considerably more oil pastels than the background and the surface on which the vase stands.

It proved impossible to apply white clearly, and the yellow also faded away, which is to be expected against a green background. Instead of applying white, I ended up scraping off the pastel. I started with the berries.
As the number of colours is limited and I didn’t fancy scraping bits off borrowed oil pastels to mix colours, I added a bit of red to create a slightly pinker shade.
Since white flowers are inpossible, I used blue instead, although it’s barely noticeable. I scratched lines into the design using the spindle holder for soft pastels. When I use the side of this, I can also blend the pastel more effectively. For this, it does need to be of a certain thickness. Blending colours with my finger doesn’t work with this method, the same counts for a (kneading) eraser so I assume this has to do with the type of oilpastels.
Here and there, I’ve also scratched outlines around the flowers. Personally, I don’t think it’s very successful. This does remind me of what we used to do at primary school.
Tomorrow I take the oilpastels back. No, I will not give up on it, but wait for mine to be delivered. One package of what I ordered is not even half the prize of Talen's Panda. Let's see if there's a difference.

Don't say that, you're giving your work a really bad rating, it looks like something from school.¿ What can I say? I think it's okay, not excellent, but good.
We did do this technique at primary school and back then I liked it. By the way the primary school I visited invested a lot of time in creativity. Every Thursday afternoon you could pick an art you liked (pottery, wickerwork, etching, jigsaw cutting, woodworking and pyrography, soldering, and so on).
