Antartica beneath the glass
National Gallery of Victoria graciously hosts a ten day festival of food, music, and various displays of art with over 100 artists from 32 countries.
Standing proud within the confines of the Great hall is "Floe", created by Roland Snooks. All panals were robotically printed using the latest technologies in production, design and fabrication research. Accompanying this strong structural statement are recordings procured by Philip Samartzis. Taken during his time in the field within Antartica, the recordings bring attention to the fact that it is not a silent land but one of everchanging landscapes and horizons.
The Great hall's ceiling is a work of art in itself, created by artist Leonard French. The endeavour took 5 years to complete and has been a long standing piece of beauty for forty years i the National Gallery of Victoria.
