Build it to break
I had told myself that this was only going to be a quick 30 minute sketch but I was having a lot of fun so...I kept going.
Today was a successful day. I started building a new Magic: The Gathering deck at @coffetto. I suffered two devastating defeats, thanks to @tarotbyfergus. I was fuming inside and started to obsessively gather up new cards. I knew that this new deck would kick everyone’s ass and it did. 😈 It won me 2/3 games, thanks to my commander Samut. Definitely the best part of my day.
I thought about stopping again but then I got curious and wanted to see it with more color. I also spent a few minutes playing with the textures in the hair.

@vermillionfox - the best part of my day was doing a logo design for another group on Steemit (my third one now), but finding out that you play Magic the Gathering and that you had a productive day also made my day that much better as well :)
That sounds like a lot of fun! I’ve had people ask me to help them design a logo but it’s not my cup of tea. Do you play Magic as well?
I am sure people have asked you with logo design because they can see the creative/artistic skills that you have in spades :) I am not even a graphic designer but I love the fact that on steemit people don't immediately put you in boxes and are judgmental about what you have the skills or not to do something.
I haven't played the 'physical' version of the card game, but I have played the PC/mobile versions and it good not to have to do all the calculations in my head (although that seems to be part of what makes it fun). Same reason why people love to play the board game version of Warhammer 40k and related games. Have you found quite a few people here that play Magic?
If you look at things I have done on steemit you'll find that it is perhaps for someone like me who is not good at anything but likes to dabble in A LOT of things :D
That’s the beauty of steemit. I like seeing people who put all their energy into creating.
I know a few people who play magic here @kommienezuspadt @tarotbyfergus @iamredbar and we meet up to play pretty often. I can see the appeal of playing online but I enjoy the thrills of physical gameplay. We’ve all gotten frustrated and dramatically slapped our cards onto the table. It’s hilarious.
I think it’s good to do a little bit of everything. That way you can build your skills and there is never a dull moment.
I have been to a few Warhammer 40k events and I do think physical gameplay is more exciting for experienced player. However, for us noobs it is pretty hard to keep track of all the things in your head and there are some funny moments when people forget some of the rules :D It's great that you know steemians online and in real-life. I hope to meet some of them in person soon!
I’m sure you will! I’d suggest looking to see if anyone is hosting a local steemit meetup. Our group has gone to two and I’ve been able to attend one. It’s loads of fun.
this is becoming better and better, and also love your experimenting. That is the best part of creating art!
Experimenting is all I’ve been doing the last few days. I’m also trying to recreate textures and other elements that you’d use in traditional media. It’s hard.
You did great. I'm glad you decided to continue while you were "in the zone".
Yeah, me too.
Wow, awesome sketch. But I don't fully get the last step... ;) Why did you overpaint the sketch? :)
I guess, because it’s interesting to look at. Ah... It’s hard to explain. Say, you’ve got your name typed out on a sheet of paper and it’s cut in half horizontally. You’re able to reconstruct the image of the letters in your mind. So, you’ll see with my art that I will sometimes take things away or I’ll stop before it’s complete. I also do this with my writing style.
You can add to good artwork but you can't take from great artwork, at least I think that's what they say. Nothing worse than a movie that is 30minutes too long, so I assume the same applies to your creative work :)
It does!
Ahh I see! Great! Thanks for the explanation! :)
Wow! This is indeed a great art. ❤️
Keep it coming please. ☺️
Thank you! 😁
I want to say Wow; but I can't help but notice that I've been beat to it many time already. this is lovely.
Thank you so much! I love hearing great feedback.
So, you also play magic:the gathering? That thing got me hooked up in high school days. Didn't know it's still a thing today. Any way nice piecr of art as always. I had a hard time making a 1 paragraph story on your art this week, I guess optimistic things are my weakness. I prefer dark gloomy and brooding plots.
Yep, I do. I started playing a little over a year ago. It is very addictive and I love the artwork on the new cards.
online or the actual cards? I used to play the actual cards, damn card acquisition those days were pretty damn hard, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack, but today I guess online magic:the gathering has lower difficulty when it comes to card hunting and deck building. Had 2 kinds of deck elven deck and bait and switch(blue+black). That was like way back 2003.
I play with actual cards. I’ve got an entire chest filled with boxes and binders that I’ve organized. Our group has been playing commander recently since we can’t keep up with standard gameplay.
That's nice, it brings back memories hustling for a rare legend card, my personal favorite was minion of the waste and bizzara the dreadful both are black.
looks very nice to me, I liked the original drawing too, without the coloring on it, you should keep that one as well, minimalistic, but still with an impact.
Yeah, I’m for sure keeping it. That’s a the beauty of digital. Most of my drawings are pretty minimalistic.
very good
