You're Supposed To Like This Post Because There Is A Bikini In It

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I'm still a bit clueless about how Steem Powers go up or down. Hence, I've been reading a lot of helpful SteemIt HowTo  and Newbie posts. There definitely were a variety. While tag-exploring, I came upon the following post:

https://steemit.com/motivational/@johnsmith/why-the-steemwhales-are-upvoting-crap-instead-of-your-masterpiece-and-why-you-should-be-happy-about-it (Linking it because I quite enjoyed it).

One idea it throws out is that putting up bikinis and other supposedly "popular" posts (e.g. pots, surfing, breasts, etc.) will make you COOL! ha.. and apparently it is the BEST way to survive in SteemIt. This is ultimately clumped with some numbers to look statistically sound. Will bikinis really hype up the votes? Even though the article wasn't to my liking, I do respect the author's honest opinion. And if you've been exploring Steem, you'll notice that a lot of nearly-boobied /bikini/etc posts get a high number of votes. You have to admit, the argument wasn't based off of nothing.

However! (I highly recommend you read the article AND willianbank's reply to it.)

I see a lot of good posts suggesting originality as the way to go. Personally, this sounds like a more favorable approach. There has been mention about Steem overtaking the current social media powerhouses. I think if SteemIt's community is more centralized around the idea of producing valuable contents rather than the production of upvotes through objectification of bodies and automated posts, to name a few,...long sentence....then maybe it can coexist with other social media sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc. ) instead of engulfing them. Anyway, that's just a drifting though for now. If you haven't already, go read willianbank's reply. The thing that got me most was his argument that overproduction of low-quality posts will drive away Steemers who have the potential to make the site more than what it is now. Why? Because valuable posts will get lost in a storm of bikinis, which will ultimately discourage valued posters/SteemPlayers from joining. In other words, don't turn this into another Facebook/Twitter?

Well, this is all opinion. Right now, with SteemIt at such an early stage, there are multiple ways to play the game. What do you think?

And here you go! A hand-drawn UNICORN JENOODLE in B I K I N I to complete the irony of this blabber post.

Tombow Pens on Paper, Brush Markers Color, Fantasia Painter Filter

Here's to another UNCOOL post lost within the bikini storm!
