Work in Progress - Starting to Take Form.

All in all, there's not a lot more to this than last time I posted the progress report, but it makes a huge difference when you start to add contour to the characters in a piece, even if it's far from finished.

The seals are actually all going to have a lot of brown on them, so they'll blend in a tiny bit more with the wood paneling of the room. I've also decided to make premier Ford's suit out of seal skin, so I'm going to tone-match it. I think that adds another layer to this political mess.

My partner asked me if I was going to give any of the seals clothes, to signify who they represent in the PC party. I told him no, because in Animal Farm, only the pigs were allowed to wear clothes. This give Ford more power than he actually has, but the effect I'm going for is that the people in these seats are clapping to save their own skins, not because they think they're doing any good for the general populace.

Mikey and I went to see Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 11/9 last night. It's really heavy stuff, about why so many people voted for Trump, an outspoken racist sex offender. He brushed over the Russian collusion stuff at the very beginning, but the movie focuses on, instead, the sad awful disenfranchisement, and the mistakes the liberals made that ended up pushing votes to Republicans, or to not vote at all.

I feel like this is one of those movies I can spoil a little, because it's all stuff that's available to us with the slightest bit of research, but so important.

It made me cry a few times, when it spoke about the children of Flint, Michigan, and the survivors of the Parkland school shootings.

None of our hopes and prayers that we're so fond of sending to victims will help any of us without action to back it up. Trump is busy trying to get a man into Supreme Court who is under investigation for sexual abuse, much like many of the other people around him in office. This is a man who wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade. A man whose screaming and crying met applause, when had the roles been reversed, and Dr. Ford had been the one vying for the position, she would have been called hysterical and too overly emotional for a Supreme Court seat.

I'm really upset about everything that's going on right now in the world. Like I've never been before. I don't feel especially powerful on my own, but I will join my voice with every petition, every protest that I can. I will continue to make political art, and express what it means to be free, while I still have that option. The similarities of Western politics now and the rise of Nazism in 1930's Germany are staggering.
