Drawing for Dwelling -Mioko at the Door
A knock at the door
In this post you can see the illustration 'Mioko a the door' that I created for Chapter Thirty Five of @dougkarr's amazing novel Dwelling.
A knock at the door. Then another.
She struggled to open her eyelids, raising a clammy bicep to shield the light.

The drawing 'Mioko a the door' was on display at the Crypto Renaissance exhibition in Brooklyn, New York in August 2018.
Creating an illustration for Dwelling
Areas of the paper were masked off , then the image of the Mioko at the door was drawn out in pencil.
Washes of ink and water were added to the picture with a brush, building up layers of tone.
Finally, a dip pen and drawing ink was used to draw in some of the finer details.
Mioko opened the door a crack without removing the drawn chain.
“What time is it?” she said, finding Dorian in her luminous hallway.

“What? Now?”
“Come on.”
She tried to ascertain if Dorian’s late night overture wasn’t some new trick, but in the newfound brightness, everything seemed relatively free of danger. She pulled back her chain.

WOW! exceptional!
No need to say more! I applaud you
Thank you - it is great to see the images in print.
very nice You are a great artist
I LOVE this one so much. It cuts the the quick of what Dwelling is about, modern neighborly intimacy and distrust while unseen forces lurk in the tenement shadows. Should she open the door? Or is it dangerous out there?
