Amateur artists made incredible sculptures from junk (phantastically astonishing images!)

Still amidst an apalling social, political and economic crisis Caracas is a city in which art can take place everywhere. And, of course, in spite of those problems everyone know or perhaps s/he barely thinks to know, there can be a place to amaze or smile, or well an uncanny nook in which beautiness is waiting for us as we walk. These images were taken at the Art Center PDVSA La Estancia, not far off from one of most symbolic places of this city during last years: Plaza Francia (English 'France Square') in Altamira, a high class and upper middle class quartier in Eastern Caracas, known for being the spot of many riots and anti-governmental protests. But also from the anthropological point of view both square and art center constitute a gay and lesbian village: here macho culture that lives on in Venezuela as in other Latinamerican countries and Spain crash down, and you can see something unusual in this city, namely, same-sex couples showing affection, laying down on the grass, doing a stroll hand in hand or kissing in public.

If compared to other metropolis in the world or even to other South American cities like Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires or Bogota, Caracas is a calm, and almost provincial city (yes, it is so no matters how tricky crime can be). Its size backs this vision up. The fabulous range of green and gold, the flocks of macaws, and its proximity to the sea, make it a place suitable for reveries. Its soil is as well one of most fruitful in Venezuela: nearly every tropical or subtropical plant may grow up in it. I have read, and later heard from elders that fruits from temperate climate such as strawberries, and peaches used to grow in the Northern valley in which the city is now located, but that happened when the valley was colder, and less populated.

Well, to make this story shorter, I was lucky to come upon this display a couple of months ago, yet it is not till this moment that I am able to show you this magnificent pieces put in the exacting gardens of PDVSA La Estancia, an art center opertating in the house, and smallholding belonging to disappeared estate La Floresta (in which nowdays a neighbourhood of identical name has been built), in Northeastern Caracas. It is the second-to-last stop of a 7,3 km route for pedestrians spreading across the heart of the city, eastwards from Los Caobos Park nearby downtown to Rómulo Gallegos Park in Los Dos Caminos, incluiding promenades, broad pavements, playgrounds, gardens, and squares in between.

The exhibition is named "Poesía de un astillero" (A shipyard's poetry), and all of the works are entirely made from scrap metal. All artists are amateur authors, shipyard workers from Puerto Cabello (the greatest seaport in Venezuela by volume of merchandises), to whom some tracks of sculpture were taught. And then, this is the result!
