RE: Hard work vs talent

in #art6 years ago

There was a time when this used to really irritate me. I've dedicated about the last 15 years of my life to art and design. It doesn't come cheap. Everyone has the same 24 hours in each day and every minute that I spend practicing this craft is a minute I spent NOT doing something else. Hanging out with loved ones and friends, watching a great show on Netflix, seeing a movie, trying some interesting food, enjoying nature etc. There is a cost, but there is also a very valuable reward.

What I learned is that people can only see things from their own perspective. When they haven't climbed the mountain I've climbed they can't really appreciate the accomplishment, and honestly, that's not their fault, how could it be any other way.

So now when people tell me I'm talented, I just smile and say thanks, focusing on their intention and not the fact that it's off base. Keep pushing, it's worth it!

True. I could get very focused on the irritation it causes, but mostly I don't. It's just something that arises every once in a while. Now that I'm here on Steemit blogging, I have a place where I can voice some of these thoughts. I just focus on me, getting better at what I do, and when someone says I'm talented, I just smile. Those of us who have worked to get where we are, we know what it takes, and respect others who have done the same. Sometimes I wish I had talent like others out there...but I just got determination. So, in a way, I guess that's a talent, hehe.

Be well!
