Focus On ONE THING At A Time, You DUMMY!

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I realize more and more, Some of the biggest mistakes I've made with self-employment could have been easily avoided. As a business owner, I want the best for my business. As a result, I have been spreading myself too thin. Hoping to put a couple "eggs" into every basket. Hoping to see results.

When I invest a ton of time into one thing for a while, And I fail to see huge results. I get bored, and I go on to the next big thing. I assume the whole system is broken. When I feel like I'm super close to getting the results that I want.
This is stupid of me.
While I have gotten a lot of great opportunities because of this mindset, I'm learning more and more everyday that I cannot pursue tons of different niches at once. If someone dedicates 100% effort into one thing, Then I'm trying to "pass them" with my 50% effort, Who will win? Not me, That's for damn sure.

Right now I'm in a pickle.

I'm building up my merch brand, Mugs, Shirts, etc. Using two different platforms that are syncing to other platforms. The whole thing is brilliant. But unfortunately, I'm not making any money yet... It's kind of like when you first start a business, it takes all your money, But you don't' get any money in return for a little while.
So to make ends meet I rely on my coloring book sales and my drop shipping store.

While the drop shipping store is making me a ton of money, There is a catch-22. They changed their payment system, so I'm not getting paid for an another month or 2. I've already waited over three months. So basically all of the merchandise that I'm buying for my customers is going straight to my credit card, Along with my newly found T-Shirt store expenses.

Now my coloring book sales... They have dropped horribly this month for some reason. I'm assuming it because I've been so busy my marketing efforts have been slowed. And One thing I cleaned from reading the book "Guerrilla Marketing" is if you aren't marketing, You have to start over because you have to be in a constant state of marketing.

So this is pretty crazy.
But I'm surviving, Barley. While I am still trying to "balance" everything. I've taken a small step back from my merch store, To now focus on coloring book sales again.

You can't do everything

Deep down I know, If I don't hire employees to manage one entire area of my business. I'm going to see it crash. I'm hoping I can get my coloring book sales and merch store up and running more efficiently. Then If I lose my drop shipping store, I won't care as much. Although in the back of my mind, I know that the bulk of my sales will come from Amazon traffic. So my dropshipping store is a nice way to "diversify." I think I'll just have to hire a damn good employee to run that part of my business. (My ex-boyfriend helped with a lot of that. But after being dumped, I lost that help.) So now I'm doing it all myself.

I just can't get over, How when you're a kid, One day lasts forever. But when your and adult It seems like 10 minutes goes by, And your day is over. In my next post I'll be talking about some new marketing tactics I hope to try, and what I learned through my research. colored-pencils-402546_960_720.jpg

I hate to be spammy, But when you purchase my Steemit shirt, You not only help build up the platform, (By Advertising). But it's only 10.99 Which is super cheap for a shirt. I don't make anything off of your purchase. Except I used my affiliate link. So I may get like 1.00. Also, you help me grow my business Because when I get sales, it helps boost my tier (So yes I do benefit a little bit from your purchase.) This shirt is high quality, And many people charge 20.00 for these shirts.

Want Awesome Steemit Gear? Get this Cool shirt for 10.99

Thank you @elyaque for the awesome Badges!

I kinda feel like you need to spread out to find what is working, then hone in and focus on them when you do. Don't want to waste time on something that might bust and have no backup. Like pruning I guess.

I agree!! But for me, A lot of stuff seems to work, If I invest enough time into it.

You have a great attitude, it helps :). Hope you keep finding success.

Thank you hehe :)

Yes this is definitely a challenge for me because I like to explore creative outlets and sometimes it takes focus away from my main interests. I do agree that you have to tinker with things to see what you really find a groove with after putting in some consistent work.

Self-employment can be tough... especially when you have multiple channels going at the same time... I have four eBay, two Etsy, Amazon Handmade and our Art Gallery's web store to manage, and sometimes there's nothing I'd like more than just wander off into the sunshine. So I get where you're coming from!

WOw!! Thats how I am too!!
I have 1 etsy, 1 ebay, 1 listia, 1 Seller central Amazon, 1 Merch account, 1 shopify!
I wish we had time to wonder off! I feel like I never have "free time" anymore.

Good job! Thank you for the pleasure!

Thank you!

good picture I like to see it

Thank you!

You aren't the only one who does this. Dan Larimer starts projects, develops it to 1.0, then leaves for the next project just before maturity. And there are many many successful people who have a similar pattern.

Sometimes starting the business is much more fun than the phase of growing the business I guess.
