It is a nice original take on a very common subject. Usually, Deep Ones are depicted as monsters that take advantage of humans for their own sinister plots, but you managed to give a sense of longing, of the sentiments and thoughts inside this creature's mind.
In Neonomicon (I linked it in another comment), Alan Moore also tries to make the Deep Ones more familiar, but still, their behavior remains extremely weird to us, and of course vulgar and violent. It is difficult to sympathize with such an alien race, so different to our own.

It is a sea monster! A blasphemous hybrid, spawned from the unholy mating of Deep Ones and their slaves & protegees, the inhabitants of the secluded Innsmouth village. H.P. Lovecraft detailed the village and its people in his "Shadow over Innsmouth" novella, and lately Alan Moore gave his own take on the subject in "Neonomicon" which I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking to read more about Deep Ones and their cultist-worshippers.
