Peaceful Reclining Woman

After a few warm up doodles to capture the essence of this poolside scene, I sketched my wife quickly in one continuous contour line drawing. She was reclining by the pool in a most elegant way. The magazine in her quiet lap added to the pure relaxation of this calm afternoon.

You wouldn't know it from looking at my final drawing, where I added color and more SoCal detail, but there is much more to the story. My wife actually works extremely hard. I'm not even going to pretend to list all the laborious tasks that this persevering dear woman tackles throughout the course of her days. But they are many and varied.

All that can be seen from this art, is that it's another beautiful day in sunny Pasadena, California. She enjoys a moment of peace, and who knows how long it will last? But let's savor such peace when we have it. Hopefully, it also comes through that I love this woman... and I thank God for her.
