Princess Peach | Super Mario 64 Fan Art [Process Drawing]
It's no secret that I am a fan of the Super Mario games from Nintendo. I've played them all and recently completed Super Mario Odyssey on the Switch (The Darker Side of the Moon was pretty frustrating). In the Super Smash Bros. series, she's one of my mains. I've always liked how her dress in the fighter game was much more elegant and detailed than her core franchise series.
The Wire Frame
Even though Princess Peach is often wearing a royal dress, I find it important to create her entire body structure, even if her lower torso will not be visible underneath the garment. Doing this enables me to illustrate folds and shape correctly to her leg shape and location.
The Sketch
Princess Peach may have debuted as a damsel in distress, but since Smash Bros. Melee she has been more than capable of keeping up with the boys. As a matter of fact, I have been known to be more than a little intimidating and threatening when I play as her character. I wanted her pose to reflect her confidence with a touch of playfulness.
The Line Art
I love how detailed and layered her apparel is from the Super Smash Bros. series. The mainline Mario games have her wear such a simple and rather boring dress. Her highness deserves to look the part of royalty. She's not just another cute face, she's a woman who can hold her own.
The Flat Colors
Princess Peach is named appropriately as her color pallet is very pink and feminine. Her hair style is also very round and full of volume, reminding me of the curvy shape of a plump peach fruit.
The Finished Illustration
It was my plan to have her roaming her gardens or located somewhere outdoors. But I changed my mind in the very end and instead placed her just inside the main entrance hallway of her castle. The carpet she's standing on is a special one. If you stand here and look up you might just have the sunshine reveal a secret to you.

Great idea. I'll do as you suggested. Thanks!
what a nice picture of a very iconic video game character : )
your process is also nicely explained, and the final picture is pretty, with clean line art and cel style colouring.
