Not Related to Anything: Considering Adding an "Alt" Account
It has probably not escaped your attention that in one of my "other lives" I like to pass my time painting pretty intricate mandalas on beach stones Mrs. Denmarkguy and find on the beach when walking the dog.
A sampling can be seen in the photo; click on it to see the full-size version — it's pretty cool!
From time to time, I have also used the @steembay utility to offer some of them for sale, here on Steemit. It's actually something I would like to develop further — both to support my art, as well as to support SteemBay.
I think it can only help Steem — the currency — if we create more and an "economic reason" for its existence. I also really like the idea of Steemians being able to trade goods and services with each other withOUT having to convert to BTC or fiat to make that possible.
Of course, I am famous for "overthinking" things.
I know people who visit my blog expect a certain "kind" of content... which would most likely NOT include an endless stream of SteemBay offerings and pictures of rocks. However pretty they may be.
It also occurred to me that quite a few people "auto curate" my posts, and it just seems WRONG to have them spend voting power on this kind of content. I know it would probably annoy me, if the situation were reversed.
"But why not just decline payout?"
Well, because those @steembay listings depend somewhat on upvotes for me to be able to offer "free shipping" to buyers.
But I feel those listings should be able to stand on their own...
Hence, I am considering creating an "alt" account here, JUST for the painted stones.
What do YOU think?
I think you should create the alt account, if you are worried about transparency, add your main account in the "About" section or Website Section.
I feel that by creating beautiful things and contributing to the economy of Steem this would benefit all of us.
No matter what you decide to do, you are a class act! I can't think of a better person to create and sell art on Steem.
Thanks for the feedback... and, of course, flattery will get you a long way! ;-)
In a sense, I am also exploring the possibility of having a more "commercial" account here vs. this one which is more "personal blog." I'm fairly passionate about being part of building a Steem economy... but I don't want to see this account becoming "commercially spammy" in my efforts to pursue that.
I think you should. I also think you should create alt accounts for every rock you paint and have all your rocks vote for you. Why not? It seems there are hundreds of people doing it to avoid paying vote bots. But seriously it would be a good idea to keep the content seperate and maybe help keep things organized. I did a similar thing on Second Life. I had several avatars for various functions and it worked out ok for awhile as I was able to transfer items, textures, ideas, whatever, to my primary avatar. The only thing is now I have a multiple personality disorder and dont know who I am anymore. Lol.
That's the best laugh I've had all day....for this site it totally ROCKS! (lol)
O.o I had 4 alts because it was the only way I could actually get to work. Second Life was the most social experience I ever experienced!
One of my alts did run off and develop a completely different life of her own. I was most shocked! But ... it was fun.
Actually my alt became more fun than I was. And I'm not sure I'm over it either.
I'm permanently altered as a result of that stupid game. In a way it saved me from my self in that it provided an outlet and insight to parts of me I never dared deal with. I'm a better person for having gone there and still visit from time to time.
Well, you certainly made my day with one of the best comments I've had in a long time-- so thanks for that!
But now you do have me a little worried about the whole multiple personality thing... if I lose myself, I doubt anyone will find me and bring me back.
Shame you missed out on creating one sub 1 million accounts for it. I can more than understand from that point of view in wanting to use another account just for that. Only issue I see you having is driving traffic to it to it gets noticed.
When I made a post poking a little fun at f4f I made an alt account @timecat . I used Steemconnect and sent 3 steem or what ever to to be delegated to it. I still find it amusing people are still following that dead spam resteem account haha.
The traffic driving thing I can handle; ultimately, it's my own laziness and lack of motivation that concerns me. Specifically, this account is "Plan A" and if I have another "plan," will it distract me too much?
Wow... @timecat has over 2000 followers... not bad for a dead account...
Depends how much time out of the week its going take you to run another here. If you can more or less templated it and just switch out some of the information in no time that seems like a great way to go without taking away to much from your main.
It would also just be easy to forget about it and it just sits and collects dust. I guess it would come down to frequency and how much you are hoping to make running it. If its once in a blue moon you might as well just keep using your main to handle it.
Hehe the trick of getting 2k was going into one of those dirty resteem seller places and just spam clicking all the accounts following them. They spam follow all day long and than remove their follows when people don't follow back. As such I netted myself quite a many f4f hahaha. I'm sure it would been more if most of the accounts following where not already dead accounts. Those kinds people really do make themselves such pawns by just following everything.
those are cool! it had actually escaped my attention that you make those beauties! perhaps share a few here on this account and each time mention your new account to get it "off to the races" first? either way, they're gorgeous and i agree, great to sell on steem for you and for steembay!
Thanks! It's part of our own weird "urban homesteading" project — we call it "patchwork economics."
IF I do end up setting up a new account, I'll probably resteem a few... they'll still be in my feed for people to see, but they won't trigger the curators of more "serious" content. As I said up above, maybe I'm just "overthinking" the whole thing.
So people auto curate aren’t looking at what your actually producing for content, they’re just looking at the numbers your posts produce and how they can reach there.
I'm sure some might be, but for the most part I have some followers who are pretty intense curators and posters, who have decided — after having followed me for a year — that they can safely vote on my content because it's very consistent.
I tried an alt account and it was so much hassle! In my experience, I'd recommend against it. Easier to do everything in one place. Others seem to do well with the double account though, maybe its just me.
Yeah, I get that. As I mentioned in another comment, part of this will be about my own motivation — this account is definitely my "plan A" and I don't want running a "B account" to become so much of a distraction that I don't pay attention here.
I wouldn't mind, as I support art posts, too, of you kept them together. But I don't auto curate at all.
This was spurred in part by the fact that I finally will have a little more time for "artistic pursuits." The "Denmarkguy" account is not — and was never intended to be — anything but a place for me to have a personal/social blog.
Steemconnect has a great tool for starting new accounts. Just need to delegate or donate some SP to it to get started.
Yeah, theirs seems to be pretty inexpensive and convenient.
These are beautiful and I had no idea that you were such a creative artist. I definitely think you should create the alt account and I think it will be very successful.
Most likely, I will end up doing that. I have spent almost 18 months building this account around more "serious" long form content, so I don't really want to lose that.
I'd guess an alt account would be more trouble than it's worth. It'd be annoying to have to switch accounts and you'd probably accidentally post from the wrong account at least once. You might consider using a special prefix for these stone mandala posts. For example, I prefix all my haiku posts "Haiku of Japan :: TITLE", my Japan photo posts "Random Japan :: TITLE" and my link posts "→ TITLE".
Of course using the prefix idea only works if folks actually look at post titles. It won't do anything for auto-curators.
BTW, those are some beautiful mandala stones! Well done!
