New Painting: No, that's just not right...steemCreated with Sketch.

I spent the morning laying the groundwork for this boat painting. The canvas had something on it that wasn't working out, so I covered it in white oil paint and let it sit for a couple of months. Now that it's dry, thought I could paint on it. Didn't realize just how visible the underlayers are. Speaking of underlayers, the chickens are molting and we're getting very few eggs. Also, it's almost thermal underwear season. What was this post about again?

So I sketched in the outline of the boat and the shore and sky, just to get a feel for the placement on the canvas, and try to get the drawing right. I felt like there was something wrong with the upper shadow line, so I put a ruler to it. Wow! What a difference. Sometimes your instincts can be way off. I'm having trouble with the "correct" placement of the line because on the painting it looks off to me. That is probably because something ELSE is off. I need to stare at it for a while and see what else pops out as "just not right."

I'm also going to work on adding paint to prevent the underlayers from showing through. If I can't, it's time to trash this canvas and grab a new one!

I hope you enjoy watching the progress of my paintings, and my other artwork. Follow me for more!

I eyeball everything so I totally understand that feeling when I finally step back and get the proper eye and tools to recontextualize things and i am like WOW i was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off

I look forward to seeing this idea come together, Darren <3

Looking good. This is going to look awesome.

I wasn't able to save the canvas! The dark paint and the textures got in the way and I had to scrap it. Making it bigger this time.

That works. I’ve had that happen before. I do the same. Just chuck it. Bummer.
