Poe Stories and Poems Graphic Novel
Sorry for the short break, I had a lot going on with my life with moving, but I should come back to some sort of normalcy soon. I picked up this really cool graphic novel and I wanted to review it for the channel. If you are a fan of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories and poems, this is a really neat graphic novel illustrated by Gareth Hinds. There are basically 7 Illustrated works within the graphic novel, consisting of The Masque of the Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado, Annabel Lee, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Bells and finally The Raven.
Each work is illustrated and abridged to be able to work within 20 or so pages of comic book pages. They work surprisingly well and differ very little from the source material. They may be shortened, but the bulk of meaning and content still remains.
That may mean that it cuts some of Poe's descriptions, but the artist does a fantastic job showing the dark and dreary atmosphere of Poe's material. The illustrations really are the best part about this graphic novel with the attention to detail being pretty fantastic.
The book itself is very high quality, printed on gloss material (why you can see the reflection on my photos, by the way if anyone knows how to get rid of that while still being able to keep it lit, I would love to hear suggestion). Garreth Hinds does other work illustrating classics and I will definitely be picking some up and reviewing them in the future.
