(Gluttony is a Vice but hunger is not a virtue)
In affluent lands with so many eats,
It’s easy to gobble down Chocs, lollies and sweets.
Refined rubbish, and takeaway grub,
(The sort you may find in a tawdry pub)
Or worse, franchised fast food purveyors
Strategically placed for hungry surveyors,
Of what may be available, their hunger to sate.
Their portions in boxes, too big for a plate
Insatiably eager to eat all day long
Is it a vice, a sin that is wrong?
Banana splits, chocolate mud cake to die for
Fish and chips, deep fried food to cry for?
With so many foods here to defame
Turning you off eating isn’t our aim.
The human frame performs quite adequately
With wholefood, plant-based food for tea.
(His parents dubbed him Algernon Nero)
Given to food where quantity ruled,
He was always nibbling to keep himself fueled
His favourite treat was bread and chutney,
(Did we mention he lived in Putney?)
He’d gobble slabs of buttered bread,
With chips and oily things, thick spread
And of course, to feed his gluttony
Lots and lots of thick, rich chutney.
There were many other treats of course.
His pet saying was “I could eat a horse!”
But one fine day, out on the road
He ate a mint and did explode!
He reached his limit? Is that why he exploded after the mint? Hmmmm
That mint thing is a Monty Python reference(or at least I hope it is...)
Very funny that it was the mint that brought him undone. I love all the names of your characters.
