30 minute speed challenge

Every once in a while I like to practice my drawing and painting speed. Working fast means you really need to pay attention to the basics of the subject and not go in to detail too much.

First you need to get the basic shape right

By making a quick sketch. Look at the basic form of the subject and check how different parts relate to eachother.

Next part is to get the basic colors

I always try to work from dark to light when painting

Basic details

Then paint the basic details, without overdoing it. When it comes to strawberries, this is crazy hard!

Shadows and highlights

Work on the shadows and highlights to make the strawberry look more realistic.

All in all this was a real challenge. Strawberries have so many details, it's hard to simplify it.

I worked in Photoshop CS5 using a Wacom drawing tablet
