Yeah a lot of curators specifically look for original-to-Steem content, which is another level beyond just "original" content (which could have been posted elsewhere first). Myself I don't mind if someone crossposts elswhere if they are posting content here while it is still "fresh" but I typically don't upvote reposts of old content unless I think the poster is really promising and I want to give some encouragement to stay on platform and post new stuff here. But really, there is no reason NOT to post on Steem first and wait a few days before posting elsewhere - it is pretty unlikely that you will get paid (US dollar equivalent) $100s for art posted elsewhere, but it happens here all the time.
