Exploring Watercolor Techniques

in #art9 years ago (edited)

I have been doing watercolors for quite a while now and can't seem to stop with this medium! :D I love and enjoy it so much and honestly there is so much more to explore. There are a LOT of things one can learn by hit and trial method while working with watercolors.

I wanted to bring a quality of fuzziness in the next artwork that I was gonna do and tried the "Wet-on- Wet" technique. I was happy with the way things were going but my happiness was short-lived :P

The painting got completely ruined!

Tried to make a husky

OK. Here is what happened.

I applied a layer of water and then the paint as usual but what went wrong was the amount of paint. I used more than what was required and very little negative space was left.

So, that's one lesson that I learnt for this technique if you want to play with positive and negative space!

But I didn't want to stop here and considered doing some more explorations!

While doing these I painted a man holding umbrella with only paint and then applied brushstrokes with water. I loved the effect that it brought to the figure. It sort of reminded me of a scene from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince , where Dumbledore meets the "kid" Voldermort.

I am thinking of combining more techniques and see what else can be explored. Working with watercolors has made me understand that one needs to understand the nature of the medium he/she is exploring and always try combinations. Also I learnt from a recent post of @kalemandra that we can always create an abstract piece if anything gets spoiled!

If you have any suggestions please let me know and I hope that this was informative to you guys :)

Lots Of Love <3 Keep Creating!

sometimes by ruining things we end up finding something really beautiful. Keep messing up with the colours :)

Well said :)

You are right - in order to completely understand the medium one needs to experiment and try a lot of combinations first with different colors, tools and techniques. Keep it up!

Yes that's how we come up with new things! :)
