Digging among the pictures of my airbrushed works I found the images of these bonnets. Paint on a bonnet is one of the finest parts of using the airbrush. The flat, smooth surface is very similar to that of a regular cardboard, although the color absorption and the drying times are very different. There are also many workmanships, the surface is in fact made sandpapering it completely, and then a final varnish (a job that I have always delegated to the industry professionals) is passed.
Especially in the cases presented here every job was a little adventure!

Scavando tra le foto dei miei lavori fatti ad aerografo ho trovato le immagini di questi cofani. Pitturare su un cofano è una delle parti più belle dell'utilizzare l'aerografo. La superficie piatta e liscia è molto simile a quella di un normale cartoncino, anche se l'assorbimento del colore e i tempi di asciugatura sono molto diversi. Diverse sono anche le lavorazioni, la superficie va in fatti preparata opacizzandola completamente e bisogna poi passare una mano finale di lacca per carrozzeria (lavoro che ho sempre delegato ai professionisti del settore).
Specialmente nei casi qui presentati ogni lavoro è stato una piccola avventura!

VW Beetle bonnet | Cofano per VW maggiolino

This bonnet was prepared for a special meeting dedicated to motorized cars with the famous four-cylinder boxer. My client was part of the organization staff so he wondered if I would attend the event by exhibiting some works and painting this bonnet live! I chose a little "hippy" theme considering the theme of the event and I came to the place with the bonnet ready to be sprayed and I can swear that my hand trembled a lot, completing the Indian face while people watching! But shortly, after a good beer and a party in the company gave a different flavor to everything! :D

Questo cofano è stato preparato per uno speciale raduno dedicato alle auto motorizzate con il famosissimo boxer a quattro cilindri. Un mio cliente faceva parte dello staff di organizzazione così mi chiese se mi andava di partecipare all'evento esponendo qualche lavoro e pitturando dal vivo questo cofano! Scelsi un tema un po' "hippie" visto il carattere dell'evento e arrivai sul posto con il cofano già pronto per essere spruzzato e posso giurare che la mano mi tremava parecchio completando un po' alla volta il viso dell'indiano mentre i presenti osservavano! Ma poco dopo una buona birra e una costinata in compagnia hanno dato un sapore diverso al tutto! :D

Toyota Yaris TS's "bald eagle"

It was my second car, and it did not abandon me until a few months ago. Unfortunately, due to an aquaplaning I damaged a lot of bodywork (I kept the bonnet, although a bit tricked) and then had to replace it after 9 years of faithful service (despite the usual ill-treatment)! I spent almost a full week at work to complete this work. A little anecdote, just finished I was about to load the bonnet in the car to bring it to a nearby body worker to varnish it. I exit the door of my garage aaaaand TAC! A good drop of water comes off the outer ceiling and falls right on the bonnet, melting a small part of my fresh water-based acrylics! Fixed the damage I expected for the arrival of the sun before going out! :D

È stata la mia seconda auto, e non mi ha abbandonato fino a qualche mese fa. Purtroppo a causa di un aquaplaning ho danneggiato parecchio la carrozzeria (il cofano l'ho tenuto, anche se un po' ammaccato) e l'ho quindi dovuta sostituire dopo ben 9 anni di fedelissimo servizio (nonostante gli abituali maltrattamenti)! Ho impiegato quasi una settimana a pieno regime per portare a termine questo lavoro. Un piccolo aneddoto, appena finito il tutto stavo per caricare il cofano in auto per portarlo alla vicina carrozzeria a farlo laccare. Esco dal portone del mio garage eee TAC! Una bella goccia di acqua si stacca dal soffitto esterno e cade proprio sul cofano, facendo sciogliere una piccola parte dei miei acrilici a base d'acqua appena stesi! Riparato il danno ho aspettato l'arrivo del sole prima di uscire! :D

Toyota MR2 "Black horse head"

This is work was commissioned by a horse lover (of course!). He wanted a not too flashy job, representing a black horse. I think this car is still in circulation here.

Questo è un lavoro realizzato su commissione da parte di un appassionato di cavalli (ovviamente!). Voleva un lavoro non troppo appariscente, che rappresentasse un cavallo nero. Credo che questa auto sia ancora in circolazione da queste parti.
