L'Accostée residence on the edge of Lac St-François

The Accostée residence is located in the Adstock area, bordering Lac St-François. The customers occupy this beautiful site for a few years and enjoy the water activities offered by the water.
Their original home in poor condition becoming too narrow for the growing family, they decide to rebuild by preserving nature and keeping the free space at the edge of the lake. They wish a warm and welcoming residence, respectful of the environment and opened on the lake.

The original foundations are kept to accommodate a large storage. A terrace with spa is arranged above and large steps advance towards the lake. This architectural gesture takes the form of an agora and becomes the anchor point for the new residence. The design is also done taking into account the slope of the site: the interior spaces follow one another following the natural elevation of the ground. From the access road, passersby can see the last level and the garage, while on the lake side, it is rather three levels above ground that rise elegantly, revealing a facade articulated by a set of angulations and wide openings. The project seems to cling to the hold of the original house and hovers backwards through the forest leaving the bank unobstructed. A strong duality is present between the more discreet arrival and the discovery of an open facade on the lake. The idea is not to reveal everything at first glance.

This contemporary residence is distinguished by the expression of the wooden structure. The exposed beams in the interior continue to the outside accentuating the effect of transparency towards the lake. The roof advances thus to limit the summer solar overheating of the glass facade to the south. The residence is gradually discovered by strolling through the different levels. The host receives friends and family around the large U-shaped island in a friendly and unifying atmosphere. The master bedroom, set back from the living areas, offers a peaceful view of the cedars outside, while the children's rooms, located on the upper floor, are accessible by the footbridge. The staircase connecting the three levels is light and dynamic: it runs along the red cedar wall and leads to the garden level. It is at this level that we discover an indoor pool, a well-kept secret, inserted in the heart of the residence. It is accessed by crossing the paleolithic mosaic adorning the walls of the shower. Natural light scours the wall at the end of the long pool and invites to swim.

The project is designed as a delicately carved volume, which fits through the site following its topography. The formal gestures are strong and powerful, while the materials, the beige sanded wood and the red cedar slats, are more delicate and warm.
