The first blockchain-based architecture portfolio? - Sndbox 010

This post explores the collaboration between CritDay and @sambillingham, who is a coder working on exciting projects some of which centre around the Steem blockchain. As part of the Sndbox Incubator we have teamed up to create a architecture portfolio theme for Sam’s project: Finally.
 
 

The Idea

During our architectural journey many of us keep a portfolio, perhaps it is for a final assessment, or maybe job interviews. We curate the best drawings, renders and photographs of models to show the quality of our work. This is a normal practice and in today’s age of social media is an abstraction of our everyday lives which are also now curated on platform’s such as Instagram.

Although hard copy portfolios are still commonplace, over the last decade there has been a rise in the digital portfolio. Sites such as Squarespace and Wordpress are commonly used, to quickly create an online portfolio to showcase the best work. These platforms have grown in popularity due to how easy they are to use. One downside though is they both require a monthly (or annual) subscription.This posed the question; would it be possible to create a free to use portfolio service?
 
 

Introducing: Finally - CritDay

Over the past month @sambillingham and CritDay have been working together to create a prototype for a a free portfolio for architecture students. The first version of this can be found here: https://finally.network/@davidbaldock/.

The platform runs primarily off Steem, which is a decentralised, free to use blog style platform using blockchain technology. Users of Steem are rewarded with STEEM (a digital currency) for their contributions by other users, so not only would the portfolio be free to create, you could also receive cryptocurrency whilst you are developing it.

Current features

The portfolio features all the key components you would expect; featured images, key information about the person, university and of course an area for a description. Each featured image links through to a different project (post). This means you could have one main portfolio comprising four different projects, or a project portfolio, which shows the development of a single project across multiple stages.

The project is still very much in development, but all comments and suggestions are welcome. Over the coming months we will continue to develop the theme, including opening up access for public use.

Additional Information

Finally is a platform created by @sambillingham, which allows Steem users to turn their Steem blog feed into a website. The platform features several themes, where users can select the appropriate theme to their work based on it’s visual characteristics.
