Miagao Church A Baroque Fortress Church - Architecturalphotography contest

in #architectualphotography7 years ago (edited)

Since this is an architectural photography contest I would like to share the Miagao church and the unique design and foundation. It is commonly known as the St. Thomas of Villanova Parish Church or Santo Tomas de Villanueva Parish Church.
It goes under the Baroque Romanesque style of architect. The yellowish or some call it ochre color is because they use adobe, limestone, egg mixture for binders and coral. It has 2 flying buttress of different sizes, one 2 stories with belfry and the other 3 stories. This used to be a watchtower church during the war. That is why it is also known as a fortress church. It is a mixture of Spanish, Muslim, Chinese and Local tradition in its architect and facade.

This is the side facing the main road you can see how long it is and the color here is more noticeable. The end part is part of the churches's hall.

This is the other side where the parish convent and office can be seen. People are coming out after the mass.

They say that the foundation is 6 meters deep and the walls 1.5 meters thick. Strong and sturdy. It was made into a UNESCO Heritage site on Dec. 11, 1993 with some other churches.

It's amazing that this magnificent establishment has survived for this long and still retain its grandeur. thanks for sharing :)

actually I think it is 150yrs old since renovated but it was in the 1700 that it was made

Ganda!! I always admire the architectural designs of old churches

Wooow this looks like Paoay Church of Ilocos

yes has been compared but they said this was better only shorter buttresses

It's like the church in Vigan and most likely preserved.

yes one parish priest really renovated it to it's original by demolishing the new floorings and found a strong foundation under and the walls were returned to its original way, the inside .

wow, old structure, love it, look likes liliw laguna church. thank you @purpledaisy57
