How much did the military spend yesterday? $1.4 billion

A company referred to on the Defense Department website as “Enterprise Services” won the day yesterday with a $787 million modification from SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command) on the Next Generation Enterprise Network contract.

Enterprise Services might be better known to the rest of us as Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services, and it was originally awarded this contract back in 2013. If all options of the contract were exercised, the total would reach $3.4 billion and would carry work through June of 2018. Here we are in September of 2018, with yet another year-long extension, and a hefty one at that. Oh, and also, this contract modification was not competitively procured because it's a sole-source acquisition pursuant to the authority of 10 U.S. Code 2304(c)(1).
