WHAT ANTHROPOLOGIST THINK ABOUT ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

Anthropology is just the general study of human behavior from past to present and this is a little summary of what the anthropologist think Economic Activities is about.

The anthropologist believed that the economic system of the people is the key factor to human survival in the society, in human bid for survival they develop a means of getting resources from their environment based on their level of understanding, however the economic system cannot be studied or understood in isolation because various structures and nature varies and this has influence of the economic system.

Generally, the anthropologist believed that the economy in a particular society is an act of adapting and also making a living in anthropology hinges on 2 contrasting views.

1. Formalist
2. Substantives

• Formalist this is the school of thought that looks at the economy as an act or kind of activities the individual engages in to maximizes his or her advantages just to make profit. This is simply the western society approach.

• Substantives: This is subdivided into 3 parts and there are not based of making profits.
  a. Reciprocity: This is the idea of giving with the mindset of getting something in return immediately, but a room has been created for exchange.
  There are also 3 norms of reciprocity:
  i: Generalized reciprocity: this is an aspect of giving through which nothing is exchanged, for instance, you borrow a cup of water, and something else is returned.
  ii: Balanced reciprocity: This is an act of giving without expecting something in return
  iii: Negative reciprocity: This is just an act of giving just to great s good name

b. Redistribution: This takes place when resources are gathered Its based o from everyone and a body is kept in charge to later distribute to everyone.
c: Market economy: This is just based on economizing and rationalizing.
