WHAT IS THE MUSE PROJECT?
The Muse Project is a paradigm shift for women actors.

The Muse Project seeks to disrupt the imbalance of opportunity and ownership of work for women actors through the development of challenging, actor-driven narratives and focused research into women actors' participation in the American theater. Our company shifts the theater paradigm through the empowerment of women actors as creators and content generators.

The Muse Project will impact the theater community in two distinct and important ways: it will provide an actor-centric approach to creating new work, and-more importantly-it will explore and emphasize the experiences and curiosities of women actors. The ultimate aim of the project is to illuminate the profound power of approaching theater from an actress driven perspective.

The Muse Project is an anchor partner at The Flea Theater in 2018.

The Flea Theater, led by Artistic Director Niegel Smith, is an award winning nonprofit theater company that was founded by a group of downtown artists looking to raise a joyful hell in a small space. The Flea has been championing voices least likely to be at the forefront of our culture since 1996.

New Georges, led by Founding Producing Artistic Director Susan Bernfield, is an award-winning nonprofit theater company that has produced and developed adventurous new plays (by women) in New York City since 1992.

The New Group, led by Founding Artistic Director Scott Elliott, is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater since 1995.

​Abingdon Theatre Company, led by Artistic Director Tony Speciale, presented the world premiere of Stet, in association with The Muse Project. Stet is The Muse Project's first venture to culminate in an Off Broadway production. Abingdon Theatre Company is dedicated to developing and producing new American plays by emerging and established playwrights.
