A (rare) sunny day in Inverness, Scotland.

The Scottish Highlands gets a lot of love on this sub but the city called the "Capital of the Scottish Highlands" isn't discussed as much. Here are some of my favourite things about Inverness.
The castle (pictured) is actually home to the court house! The structure was built recently in 1863 on the site of an 11th century defensive structure. Just this year, the North tower viewpoint was opened to the public (£5).
The famous Loch Ness (and nearby Urquhart castle) is a 25 minute public bus ride from the city. Infact, the river under the bridge is River Ness which drains the loch to the ocean.
I love visiting the Black Isle taproom as I think they're one of Scotland's top breweries. Other shopping hotspots include the Harris Tweed shop and many a Highland weavers (lambswool scarves are a good deal normally).
Finally, Inverness is the start point of 2 legendary Scottish journeys - the Caledonian Canal: a 97 km canal traversable by boat crossing 3 lochs and 29 locks and the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh rail journey - one of the best for views in the UK that takes you to the doorstep of Isle of Skye.
